What is the hardest part of confessing your sins?

INTO THE BIBLE

  1. Read Psalm 32 1:11. What were the main points of the sermon?
  2. Describe, in your own words, how main points 3 and 4 of the sermon outline, are true in your own life.
  3. Read Philippians 2:1-11. What does the cross call us to?
  4. Read John 15:1-17.
    What are the conditions for being a true disciple of Jesus?
    What is promised to the true disciple of Jesus?
    What does "fruit" look like in a believers life? Be specific.
  5. Read Psalm 51 and Psalm 139:23-24.
    Spend some silent time asking God to reveal hidden sins.
    Spend some time confessing sin, if appropriate, out loud.
  6. Read Romans 7:14-25.
    Does the intensity of Paul's struggle with sin surprise you? Why? Why not?
    What is the hope, practically, for the sinner's intense battle with sin? Be specific.
  7. Read Philippians 4:4-9.
    Why so much emphasis on rejoicing?
    What is the key to joy according to these verses? (Notice the emphasis on the mind.)
    Discuss the role of the mind an spiritual formation.
    What incredible promise is made at the end of the verses to those who think on these things?

WHAT CRITERIA DO YOU USE TO MAKE YOUR DECISIONS?

  1. Consider Joseph's childhood (the dreamer hated by his brothers and favored by his father), what choice would you have thought he would make?
  2. Read 2 Timothy 3:14-17. How important is Christian training in early childhood? Do we have biblical examples of parents teaching their children? Give references.
  3. What scriptural references can you think of that tell us to provide spiritual teaching for our children?
  4. Read James 1:14-15. Can we say that the devil made us yield to temptation? Why or why not?
  5. "Discipline yourself and others won't have to." How does this look in your life?
  6. "The biggest gap in life is the one knowing and doing." Do you agree or disagree? Why?

  6. Read Isaiah 30:21. In our busy and noisy culture, how do you hear "the word"?
  7. Read Exodus 18:20 and Deuteronomy 8:2. Who, apart from Christ, helps you find your way in new situations? How do they do this?

  1. The Ark of the Covenant (also referred to as the Ark of the Testimony) was a place where God spoke to Moses (see Numbers 7:89). The description of the ark is found in Exodus 25:10-22; if you want to be adventurous, make your own ark!
  2. Read Hebrews 9:4 to find our three items that were kept in the ark. What was the significance of these items (for more info, see Exodus 16:32-34; Numbers 17:1-10; and Deuteronomy 10:2-5)? What do you think the Israelites were to remember from these items?

  1. Read John 4:19-29. What kinds of expectations did this woman have for a coming Messiah?
  2. Read John 7:25-31, 40-43. Describe expectations people had for a coming Messiah? Where do you think these kinds of expectations came from?
  3. Read Luke 20:41-47. What was Jesus saying here? What was His point in quoting Psalm 110?
  4. Read Genesis 3:1-15. What were the main points of the sermon? How do we know who the Serpent is?
  5. Read Luke 24:36-49. Where is it written in the Old Testament that the Messiah would suffer and rise from the dead?
  6. Read Luke 24:18-27. Where did Moses and the prophets write about Jesus? References.
    • cf Acts 26:22-23. Where does the Old Testament mention that Messiah would suffer and rise again?
  7. Read Genesis 12:1-3. What is promised here?
    • Read Acts 3:24-26. Describe how Peter interprets Genesis 12:1-3 in relation to Jesus?
  8. Read Psalm 22. How is the Messiah depicted here? What is said about Him specifically?
  9. Read Psalm 110. (This is the most quoted Psalm in the New Testament.) What does it say about the coming Messiah?
  10. Read Jeremiah 33:14-12. What does Jeremiah say here about the coming Messiah?
  11. Discuss: How clear were the prophecies about a coming Messiah? What kinds of details should have been known?

  4. Read 2 Thessalonians 1:5-10.
    How does Paul describe the final judgment and the final state of the wicked?
  5. Discuss: What should we be teaching our children and grandchildren about hell?
  6. Read Matthew 11:20-24.
    • Discuss: Will there be degrees of reward and punishment in heaven and hell? Why? Why not?
